Als sie ihre ersten Meriten hierzulande sammelte, da war sie noch fast unbewaffnet. Da stand sie im Hamburger Stadtpark als Support von Pat Metheny auf der Bühne hinter ihren Congas und sang zum Rhythmus dort im Norden bislang nie vernommene Weisen.
Danach wunderte sie sich über den tosenden Applaus und vielleicht auch darüber, dass Metheny lieber eine halbe Stunde wartete, bis das Publikum sich beruhigt hatte und er sich auf die Bühne traute.
Diese Zeiten sind zwar vorbei, nicht aber jene schwer zu beschreibende Faszination, die von Noa noch immer ausgeht.
Sie trat mit ihrem Gitarristen Gil Dor im Duo auf, mit George Benson, Zucchero und Stevie Wonder, sie scharte Bands um sich und zuletzt sogar ganze Symphonieorchester.
Zentrum aber blieb immer ihre Stimme, blieben ihre präzisen und doch nie glatt gebürsteten Intonationen.
Ein Freund sagte uns einmal bei einem Konzert der Israelin, wer Noa noch nie habe erleben dürfen, der wisse gar nicht, was Singen bedeuten und bewegen könne.
Wir ließen unsere Erinnerungen an ihre Konzerte Revue passieren und legten dem Freund die Hand auf seine Schulter.

 

 

When she started to collect her first merits in this country she came practically unarmed.

She was standing on the stage at the Hamburg Stadtpark behind her congas to support Pat Metheny’s concert, and she sang to rythms never before heard up there in the north.
Afterwards she was slightly astonished because of the thundering applause, and maybe also because Metheny prefered to wait for half an hour until the audience had calmed down before he dared to take the stage.

This was long ago, but the fascination that stems from Noa , very hard to describe, is still there.
She has performed as a Duo with her guitarist Gil Dor, or with George Benson, Zucchero and Stevie Wonder, she built bands around her and appeared with whole symphony orchestras.
But the center of every artistic project has always been her voice, her precise, never artifically embellished intonation.
After visiting a concert of Noa a friend once told us that he who has never seen Noa live in concert doesn’t know what it means to sing and how singing can move people.
We thought about her concerts that we have seen through out the years and put a hand on that friends shoulder.
